Go Green this Spring!

Spring has finally arrived and not only on the calendar! Rain counts as spring, right?

All the leftover chocolate eggs are long gone and it’s when many of us think of changing our eating habits. A cleanse is a great way to get back on track, making sure we get all the nutrients our bodies need. Together with my mom we are starting the 30-day green smoothie challenge and are inviting you to join us!

Go Green this Spring!

We prepared 3 delicious and super healthy recipes to get you started. Try exchanging one of your main meals each day (breakfast, lunch or dinner) for a healthy green smoothie! 

 

Coconut & kale smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 large leaf of kale
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • mixed leaves (whatever you have around)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/3 cup of oats
  • 2 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup
  • small piece of ginger
  • small piece of turmeric
  • thyme
  • water if needed

Directions: Separate the kale leaves from the hard parts, using only the leaves. Grate the ginger and turmeric, squeeze the lemon. Add all ingredients to the blender, blend until smooth. Serve. Enjoy!

Benefits: Ginger and turmeric are a great way to boost your immune system, keeping you healthy and strong. They both have anti-inflammatory effects and can help fight infections. Chia and flax seeds will provide lots of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins and minerals. Oats are a gluten-free, wholegrain food, full of fiber, keeping your stomach full for a long time. All the greens will provide lots of vitamins and minerals your body needs!


Avocado Cashew Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cashew milk
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • small bowl of rocket salad
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of millet flakes
  • 1 tablespoon of flax seeds
  • small piece of ginger
  • water if needed

Directions: Add boiling water to the millet flakes and leave for 10 minutes. Squeeze the lemon, grate the ginger. Add all ingredients to the blender, blend until smooth. Serve. Enjoy!

Benefits: The avocado is an incredibly nutritious food; it's full of "heart-healthy" fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Together with the banana it will keep you feeling full for a long time. Millet is a healthy grain rich in protein, it helps detoxify the body and improve digestion. Ginger will keep your immune system strong, it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in parsley are also helpful for strengthening immunity. The kiwi and lemon are a great source of vitamin C. 


Citrus Spinach Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 bag of fresh spinach leaves
  • 1 bunch of basil
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 orange
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 cup of cooked quinoa
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • water if needed

Directions: Cook the quinoa until fluffy. Squeeze the lemon, lime and orange; peel and dice the cucumber. Add all ingredients to the blender, blend until smooth. Serve and enjoy.

Benefits: Spinach is a super-food that will provide you with protein, iron, vitamins, and minerals. Quinoa and chia seeds will provide you with protein and healthy fatty acids. Citrus will boost your vitamin C intake and the banana, which has appetite-reducing effects, will increase the feeling of fullness. Basil leaves contain many chemical compounds that are known to prevent disease and promote health.
